Umbra by Fenrek Umbra by Fenrek
"I am Umbra, I guard the mask, You shall not pass"
_Umbra to the Toa Inika

Bio:
"Umbra was created as a servant for the Hand Of Artakha and later used as a guardian for the mask of life. He would guard the mask with his life to stop anyone from using it, even if their intentions were noble"

Nobody's really done a revamp of this lesser known character but I always loved his design and overal appearance so it was going to happen at some point.
I never got the Umbra set so his 'keetorange' shoulder parts are not in my possession. Instead I went for larger, system based shoulder pads with the spiked look being achieved by a couple of silver horn/tail pieces.
He has a fair amount of metru-green on him in the official set and unfortunately I don't have much usable pieces but I think I implemented it fine here.
Rather than have his oversized weapon with the rhotuka spinner in the centre, I opted for a more simple, double edged blade that still retains the different coloured ends via trans red/blue pieces rather than the electronic Inika weapons.
His wheels are smaller here than the actual set and I can identify that flaw but it works overal and doesn't take too much away from the final product.
This moc also has another unique torso/base frame to build on aswel as new arms so a few new tricks learned from this moc in terms of torso shaping and limb design.

Overal I think I did fine here. He's not my best work by far but the colours used are appealing to me and Umbra now has a revamp on the net. The only other Umbra I've seen is a wheel-less, black and silver version which is basically an edit.

Umbra! I love'd Umbra when I first saw him, but Bionicle had been discontinued for 3 years D:<

However, I do have Inika Jaller, Matroro and two Piraka.

I usually don't comment just to say a MOC's good since there are usually a whole load of people saying the same thing, but I'll say it since I'm commenting here. This is a great MOC, way better than the original in my opinion. But... there's one thing I don't get. ...Why's this guy named "Umbra"- which is latin for shadow- when he transforms into light?

I must say, this version of Umbra has got to be my all time favourite.

Really like the use of those 'System' slope bricks for the shoulders, and the silver 'horn' parts there too.. Looks better than the original, with the Keetorange Pohatu claws, and in the right light, threatening even, in my opinion(That may have helped him blend in with the Dark Hunters when he went undercover for the Order of Mata Nui, I would think).
I must also say I really like what you've done with the double-edged blade. I liked the light-up part on the Inika sets but this looks much more practical and so far less bulky. That blue looks like its lit up with the light shining through and I really like that about it.

Is our Guardian of the Mask flexible at the waist? Looks like it to me. The waist does look rather thin but I'm not too fussed.

Excellent work. Really enjoy looking at it. :)

I mistook his identity for another Order member.. so ignore the Dark Hunters part in Parenthesis.
Sorry about that!

How hath I not seen this?!??

This is the best and almost only Umbra revamp that I've seen!

I especially love the torso, shoulders, and feet. The smaller wheels are better than the set size ones in my opinion.

just out of curiosity, are the feet static, or can they bend

The ankles are on hinges.
Just below the silver Bohrok eyes you can see the bending point of the yellow liftarm. There's a black pin either side so the section can rock backwards and forwards, essentially letting him lean from his ankles.

Great revamp but part of me feels like there was more MetruGreen in the original set. I might be wrong.

There should be more green for the original but this is a revamp, my version.
I don't actually have that much in the way of smaller, useable green pieces so there isn't bulk areas of it here. The metru green is mainly in this moc for aesthetic highlights.

Like i said, it's yours. personally if I try a revamp, (which never really succeeds) I try to stay truer to to the colors. Your piece predicament is completely valid. Nice MOC in the end though
